As a result of the distraction tactics of the players, Legion wasn’t able to keep Kate and Penny from raiding the ship. On 6.17.07 a raid happened aboard the Helgus Antonius, some were killed, but Mittelwerk weaseled away. They were able to get Jack and together with Desmond (I’m not sure how he showed up) they took off in Penny’s jet, sending the Helgus Antonius to the bottom of the ocean.
On that day, both Jack’s and
Kate’s pages updated with a montage letting players know
they had done it “we did it Penny, We saved Jack,” the
message read. But all was not completely perfect; a
newspaper clipping appeared from the Phuket Gazette
detailing that Penny Widmore’s corporate jet disappeared
over the Pacific. Some players believe this means that the
four of them found their way back to the island. Others
think this means some untimely trouble has found our
heroes. In any case, the game was brought to a conclusion
that left all players very satisfied.
The puppetmasters left a message in the source code of
their congrats page, letting players know that the game was
concluded, but might continue in the future should they
have the time. I know I was grateful that they took the
time to share their alternate reality game with us. It was
several weeks of entertainment, and in some ways I think
their theories about some the show’s mysteries are correct.
We will have to wait until the end of the show to be
certain.
